Hunger -- an endless source of misery for stray animals -- also causes extreme suffering when companion animals are neglected.
Sprite was so emaciated, her rescuers at first thought she was dead.
Fortunately, the Humane Law Enforcement team at the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society noticed the puppy was still taking shallow breaths and rushed her to emergency care.
The 3-month-old, blue-eyed puppy had spent her short life suffering terribly. [1] Sprite was rescued alongside 100 other animals from an unlicensed animal rescue center in New York.
When Sprite arrived at her foster home, her foster family explained that she didn’t know “how to be a dog.” [1]
Sprite had a difficult road to recovery. 600MillionDogs reached out to the shelter, and we can confirm she has been adopted! Sprite is now safe, adored, and has the chance to play the way that dogs deserve to.
Sprite was lucky. But what about the hundreds of millions of stray dogs and cats who will never have the chance to play fetch or curl up in the sunlight by the window?
Foster: Provide a temporary, loving home for dogs like Sprite, helping them heal and prepare for adoption.
Adopt: Give a dog a second chance at life by adopting and offering them a forever home.
Volunteer: Donate your time to support shelters and help care for dogs in need.
Stray dogs and cats wander the streets, lost and alone, facing hunger, cold, and fear with no one to protect them.
For those who make it to shelters, life often remains a lonely struggle. Confined to cold, cramped cages, they live in constant stress, surrounded by the cries of other frightened, abandoned animals.
That’s why our mission is to end the number 1 cause of suffering and death for dogs and cats -- overpopulation -- by developing a permanent-lasting birth control cookie that will only need to be eaten one time, and it will in effect spay or neuter -- without surgery.
For just $5 a month, you can join our mission to protect stray animals from needless suffering. Every dollar brings us closer to a world where every homeless animal knows safety and love.
Thank you very much for your compassion!
