Every year, more than one million taxpayer dollars are wasted raising thousands of helpless pheasants — only to send them to their deaths.
New York State is wasting hard-earned tax dollars to breed pheasants — to train children and others to hunt by using live animals as targets.
It’s not a fair chase — it’s government-sponsored target practice using live animals.
The pheasants, raised in captivity with no survival skills, are released “into the wild” each fall. Most won’t survive more than a few weeks. They are hit by cars, starve, freeze to death, or suffer even worse fates.

The state spends $1.4 million tax dollars each year to fund this outdated, inhumane program – money that could go to real conservation efforts.
Assembly member Linda Rosenthal’s Bill A888 could finally put an end to this cruel program. But she can’t do it without your help.
We can transform this tragedy and redirect these funds to protect animals rather than kill them.
It’s time for New York to stop funding this needless cruelty.
Join us in saying NO to this state-sponsored target practice using live animals.
Thanks so much for caring about animals!
