4 million dogs in Turkey are now at risk of being killed under a new law that has just been passed. This law mandates the rounding up of all stray dogs in the country, and if they are not adopted within 30 days, they will be put to death. [1]

Killing innocent animals is a simplistic solution that ignores the more effective and humane options available.

Please sign the petition demanding that the Turkish government repeal this diabolical law and instead implement a humane strategy that includes mass spay/neuter of stray dogs!

Protests continue across Turkey against the newly passed law. “Your massacre law is just a piece of paper for us,” said protest organizers, supported by hundreds of animal advocates in Istanbul’s Şişhane Square. “We will write the law on the streets. Life and solidarity, not hatred and hostility, will win.” [1]

To President Erdogan and Ambassador Onal,

We, the undersigned, are shocked and appalled by the new law to kill stray dogs in Turkey. Instead, there should be a mass spay/neuter effort, also known as CNVR (Collect, Neuter, Vaccinate, Return) to manage the stray dog population humanely.

Other countries also find it effective to provide as many no-kill shelters as necessary, impose a high tax on store-bought or breeder dogs, promote spay/neuter, and enforce laws against cruelty to animals.

Homeless dogs in Turkey face a devastating future under the new law to capture and kill them if not adopted within 30 days. This inhumane, nightmarish approach has sparked widespread protests and condemnation from around the world. Turkey is a popular tourist destination, and many people have already vowed to boycott Turkey until this law is repealed.

Dogs are intelligent and social creatures. This mass killing will cause tremendous unnecessary suffering. Instead of ending their lives, we should focus on effective, humane methods to control their population.

We understand that the Turkish government aims to protect public safety and reduce incidents involving stray dogs. However, mass spay/neuter programs have proven successful in many countries and can achieve the same goals without resorting to killing.

We believe that a compassionate approach is essential for a civilized society. We look forward to your swift action on this critical matter.

Aşağıda imzası bulunan bizler, Türkiye'de başıboş köpeklerin öldürülmesine yönelik yeni yasa karşısında şok ve dehşete düşmüş durumdayız. Bunun yerine, başıboş köpek popülasyonunu insanca yönetmek için CNVR (Topla, Kısırlaştır, Aşıla, Geri Gönder) olarak da bilinen toplu bir kısırlaştırma/kısırlaştırma çabası olmalıdır.

Türk hükümetinin kamu güvenliğini korumayı ve başıboş köpeklerin karıştığı olayları azaltmayı amaçladığını anlıyoruz. Bununla birlikte, kitlesel kısırlaştırma/kısırlaştırma programlarının birçok ülkede başarılı olduğu kanıtlanmıştır ve öldürmeye başvurmadan aynı hedeflere ulaşılabilir.
